Three months since my last blog post. Sigh. It was majorly due to the extremely slow internet connection in Sunway. The truth is I've been using my phone's personal hotspot to access to the Internet on my laptop for school work and nothing else. So, it was pretty dull and boring because the only thing that could entertain me in the room is my handphone. Well, there is a television in my room but I haven't used it before, I have no idea why. The number of times accessing to social networks like Twitter and Instagram has decreased greatly, especially on Facebook. Thank goodness for friends from all over the world who I can talk to all day, everyday on Whatsapp. Ok, probably just from the UK, Australia and local but you get my drift.
Anyway, this post is not going to be about my rants. University has been fine. I have joined the Monash Entrepreneurship Club and the sub-committee of the Student Council ( but I've quit ), made a few local and international friends, attended my first rave ( not considered a 'real rave' but close enough ) and more. A few things that I have learnt for the past few months; there are many more weirdos out there than I thought in the society, do everything at my own pace because it is impossible to please everyone, people do change drastically to fit in and having the right friends is important and essential.
A little out of topic already. This post is supposedly dedicated to my 20th birthday ( yes, I'm 20 although I don't have the '20-year-old look' ) celebration this year. It was not much of a 'celebration'. Just meals with family and friends and that was more than enough. I was grateful because honestly, I was not expecting anything to be done on my birthday. Besides, I don't like celebrating my birthday because to me, being the center of attention makes me feel very very awkward. What am I supposed to do actually when people sing me a birthday song? Sing together? Or just stand still and do nothing? Well, in the end, my birthday turned out to be a birthweek because I've spent it with different friends of mine on each and everyday that week.
24th March 2014
Friend : Michelle
Venue : Thai Thai at Sunway Pyramid
Time : Evening till approximately 11pm
Thanks to Michelle for the treat! One of my few friends who I can completely open up to. We had Thai food ( obviously ) and it was so good! I used to not love spicy food. What was wrong with me? As usual, we talked a lot over dinner, took a 'birthday selfie', talked, watched hockey players playing on the ice rink and talked again. She suggested to stay until 12am so she could be the first to wish me for my birthday but I declined because it was too late already..
Pad Thai ( favourite! )
Tom Yum Soup
Green Curry.
Yummm
25th March 2014 ( actual date )
Friends : Michelle, Leshan, Chun Ting, Jason, Joon Soon, Eak-Kuan and Keith
Venue : Sunway Monash Residence's bus stop
Time : 12am
After I showered and settled down, I received a message from Chun Ting at 11.50pm saying that she had lost her access card in Sunway Pyramid and asked for my help to open the door for her. She also told me that Leshan did not pick up her phone. I was being really skeptical at first..but I just went with the flow instead. When I walked to the bus stop, I saw these friends of mine gathered with a cake. All I could say was "why are you guys doing this?!". Sometimes, I amuse myself. I thought Michelle had went back to her hostel but the guys went to pick her up to come to my place. Nevertheless, it was sweet of them although I've known Leshan and Chun Ting for barely a month then and the guys for 2 years ( we were collegemates. Compared to other friends I have who I've known since we were in primary school, 2 years is not that long but it was their second time celebrating my birthday! ). I do remember how the guys celebrated my birthday in college. Birthday songs in every class ( gosh ) and at the courtyard where there were many people ( double gosh ). They gave me a cactus and about 8 slices of cakes which I had spent a lot of time eating with my family.. Good times indeed.
Here's a group photo. The best taken already although I was about to laugh. The guy who helped to take this picture said he was not happy with my smile because I was not showing my teeth ( it's because I'm not used to it and I'll look weirder ). Thanks alot to Michelle who had came up with this plan and I was not expecting it at all!
What was my response when they sang me a birthday song? I stood still, smiled and looked at the cake. I did stop and told them not to sing me one but do you think they would care? No.
Friends : Three of the Rabaks; Jacelyn, Zoe and Christy
Venue : Starbucks at Sunway Monash Residence
Time : Noon
I received Jacelyn's messages asking me where was I when I was taking my own sweet time, having brunch in my room before tutorial started. She ordered me to go to Starbucks immediately when I said I needed some time because I was eating. I rushed there and there she was with Zoe. There were cupcakes from Twelve Cupcakes presented nicely with cute lighted candles on the table too! Not to forget a bouquet of flowers from the best friend, Christy Chua who was and is still currently in the UK furthering her studies. It was my first time receiving a bouquet of flowers as well and I love it! Things friends do even when they couldn't be present. I still keep it in my room even though they have wilted a week after because I just can't bear to throw it away.. The effort goes to Jacelyn and Zoe who brought and did all this tirelessly from Sunway Pyramid to my school. The term ' best friends ' is an understatement to describe them and I have a good feeling that I'll have many more great memories with them in the future, probably only they will get what I mean.

With Zoe & Jacelyn!
Friends : Leshan, Wei Shan, Yuman, Jian Lynn, Kah Voon, Joon Soon, Jason, Keith & Eak-Kuan
Venue : Zen Japanese Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid
Time : 8pm
Joon Soon told me to go for dinner with others which I turned down at first, but did he listen? No. So, he asked me to pick the place for dinner and since I love Japanese cuisine, I picked Zen Japanese Restaurant instead of Sushi Zanmai because I've been there for countless times and I haven't been to Zen yet. The food and company were great! Too much nonsense spoken at the table, as usual, especially when the nonsensical Eak-Kuan was sitting opposite me.. Not implying that it was a bad thing, I just got used to it. Yeap.
I can't remember who ordered which dish, but overall, the food was really nice!
26th March 2014
Friends : Regina, Natalie, Yee Hung, Wei Shan & Zi Ling
Venue : B.B.Q. Plaza at Sunway Pyramid
Time : Noon
The outing was not planned for my birthday but I was still overwhelmed with excitement from what my friends have done! My first time trying B.B.Q. Plaza and it was not bad although the interior is a little confined and cramped. The price was reasonable, considered a large portion of meat was served. Needless to say, it was an enjoyable outing. Watching Captain America on that day itself made everything even better.
27th March 2014
Friends : Jacelyn, Zoe, Nicolette, Jessie & Edwin
Venue : Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid
Time : Evening
Met up with the girls ( yeap, Edwin's a girl ) for another meal! But this time, it was at a German restaurant. My first time there as well and the food was gooooood especially the pizzas. Discounts are given to all Sunway students who are able to present their Sunway student IDs. However, it's not eligible for Monash students although it's of Sunway campus. Oh well.
With the girlsss
28th March 2014
Venue : Spasso Milano at Pavilion
Time : Night
Family came up to Kuala Lumpur for my birthday which also coincided with a family friend's wedding dinner. I had dinner with my younger sister, Jessica, who treated me to Italian cuisine! I love the ambience there too. Less crowded, good service and most importantly, the food was superb. I will certainly go back for more next time. Pavilion sure is another food heaven where most restaurants received good reviews and feedbacks.
29th March 2014
Venue : The Ship at Jalan Bukit Bintang
Time : Afternoon
Lunch with family at one of my favourite Western restaurants since I was a kid. Probably it was because my dad used to bring my family and I there everytime we were in Kuala Lumpur as it's near to the hotel we always stay at. I guess this restaurant did play a part in my liking for Western food. I also like how the interior matches well with the restaurant's signage ' The Ship '. The employees in the restaurant dress up as ship captains and sailors which enhance the atmosphere too. The food may seem deceiving in the pictures as they don't look appetising because it was quite dark in there and flash was used.
30th March 2014
Venue : Dragon-I at Pavilion
Time : 12.30pm
Lunch with family before they left Kuala Lumpur and before I was back to being stuck in Sunway. We were supposed to have Din Tai Fung but the queue was long and we were really famished at that time. Sigh. Personally, I actually prefer Canton-I than Dragon-I because there are more dim sum dishes on the menu. The food was a little disappointing though..
Liu Sha Bao. One of my most favourite food ever.
After lunch, the waitress asked to fill in a feedback form. Lady Luck sure wasn't on her side because of my brother's presence. He actually wanted to tick ' Poor ' on every service, food and cleanliness sections but I stopped him from doing that.. Why did he want to tick ' Poor ' on their cleanliness? Because he saw a piece of paper on the floor. Yes. My family amuses me all the time.
If you did not realise, I had different types of cuisines everyday on my birthdayweek. Life is good indeed. Next year's 21st birthday will certainly be a lot different. Receiving the 'key of the door' from dad is something to look forward to but he said he's still the head of the family, of course. I'm truly appreciative of my family and friends who have done so much for me, whether it's just a small wish on social networks. Some friends of mine even tried to look for me in the university to wish me. I do wonder, what did I do to deserve all these treatments?
